RESOLUTIONS VERSUS MANIFESTATIONS
Over this festive break I’ve been cosy at home Wintering and Reflecting. One misty afternoon with a large mug of tea and a mince pie I took a trip into my memory box and with curiosity opened one of my teenage diaries at 31st December.
And there I found Resolutions. They went something like this:
Eat less sweets
Earn more pocket money
Learn to sew
As you can see I was aiming high!
It got me thinking about Resolutions. Not exclusively made at New Year but often so, these are the promises we make to ourselves when feeling motivated (or just plain desperate). They’re usually goal orientated, action based behaviour change which require discipline, direct action and accountability. They’re practical and measurable. Its like you’re saying “I’m going to do this and I’m sticking with it however tough it is”. Admirable, and often doomed by mid January!
By contrast Manifestations are like putting out a vibe. They’re based on a belief that aligning your thoughts, intentions and energy with your desires will attract the good stuff. When you manifest, positive thinking and visualisations will attract desired outcomes. You focus on the things you’d like in your life and trust that the Universe will deliver. Its about abundance really and its open ended.
So if I went back to chat with my inner teenager now I might suggest she wrote instead:
I am grateful for my body and will care for it with nourishing foods
Money flows to me in expected and unexpected ways
I am open to learning new things and confident in my creative abilities
It has more Flow and its kinder too.
There is an intersection between Resolutions and Manifestations. First you set up your goals and then use your manifestation techniques to stay motivated, visualise your success and maintain a positive outlook. So for example if you want a new job you still write your CV and send out your applications while visualising yourself living your new role with all the benefits that come with it.
For me Manifestations are more spiritually aligned. We’re out there harnessing the power of the Universe, being in that future Mind Body and Soul.
Do you have Resolutions and Manifestations just waiting to align? A burning question the answer to which will help you Flow into the future. Does your inner teenager have unfinished business?
If so come and join me in a Coaching for Life session. Spots available in January…or anytime in the future…..
To return to my teenage diary. I also noted that I was ‘wishing the whole world peace and happiness’. And I wish that for you now too as we end the year and adventure into 2025.
Happy Everything from Not on the Couch.
